Legislation increases fines to £60 for seatbelts and number plates offences
Effective from July 1st 2009 fines for not wearing a seatbelt and failing to display a legitimate set of number plates will carry a fixed penalty of £60 instead of £30. Motorists are not deterred by the existing £30 for not wearing a seatbelt or displaying illegally spaced or mis-represented number plates so the fine has been increased to £60. It has been proven that seat belts save lives as well as NHS money. The increase in fines for number plates offences is presumably to enable the recognition cameras to fuction correctly in enforcing motoring offences by means of cameras.
