A round up of results from the third DVLA number plates sale of 2009

The third DVLA number plates auction of 2009 took place on the 3rd, 4th and 5th of June 2009 at Wychwood Park, Crewe, Cheshire. One thousand six hundred hand picked personalised registration numbers were offered for sale by SMA Ltd on behalf of the DVLA sale of marks unit.
One thousand,three hundred and twenty four numbers were actually sold, the others failed to reach their reserves. The total for all bids was just over three million pounds which does not compare favourably with the previous auction held in March which raised over three million six hundred and fifty thousand from one thousand four hundred and five sales. A large proportion of the shortfall can be attributed to the two top selling numbers in each auction, 1 D and 2 O brought £285,000 and £115,000 respectively in March whereas 7 T and 3 O brought £65,600 and £51,000 in June, this accounts for £283,400 difference in just two numbers.
Some bargains that sold were NAN 9Y for Nancy at just £400 and LUG 3R for firearms fans at £400 and JOP 11N for Joplin also at £400. Some novelty numbers included were F4 KES ( Fakes ) at £1900 and TOX 111C ( Toxic ) also at £1900. Some surprising results were SEV 111E at £3100, and MRV 1P at £20,500.
The next sale is scheduled for the 5th, 6th and 7th of August at The RBS Williams F1 Conference Centre, Wantage, Oxfordshire. Catalogues are available via the Agency’s website now.
