A review of the last auction to be held in 2009
The last auction of personalised number plates in 2009 took place on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of December 2009 at Tankersley Manor, Barnsley, South Yorkshire. Fifteen hundred and ninety eight specially chosen registration numbers were included in the sale catalogue by SMA Ltd on behalf of the DVLA sale of marks unit, the original number had been sixteen hundred but the marks 1 NLA and PAK 111N were withdrawn before the start of the sale. One thousand,three hundred and ninety eight of which were actually sold which is only marginally down on the previous sale by just 61 numbers.. The total amount of bids amounted to just under three million four hundred pounds which when the transfer fees and vat are included amounts to four million, one hundred and ninety five thousand punds income to the treasury.
Highest bid was for the registration number 6 O ( not sixty but the number 6 and letter O ) which brought eighty one thousand pounds at the hammer’s fall. This is the latest in a line of “ O ” numbers sold this year and ranks as number three behind 1 O (£170,000 ) and 2 O ( £115,00 ).
Next highest bid was seventeen and a half thousand pounds for the Ferrari number 458 FER believed to be the highest bid ever for a “ FER “ registration number.
Top name type number was JOE 1H which brought twelve thousand pounds while a surprising bid of ten and a hald thousand was achieved by GDH 1L.
